Bartram's Mile Fishing Pier
During the planning phase of the Bartram's Mile trail segment, the City of Philadelphia and its partners held a series of public meetings in order to determine what neighbors and trail users would like to get out of the space. One of the ideas that came out of those meeting was to repurpose an industrial pier along Bartram's Mile for recreational use. Based on a study conducted by Urban Engineers, it is feasible to rehabilitate the southern pier near the trail entrance at 49th Street and Botanic Avenue for recreational use. The design of the pier is complete and construction is nearly complete. The pier is expected to be open for use by the fall of 2022.
Pier rehabiliation funding was provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through the PA Department of Environmental Protection, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, PA Department of Community and Economic Development, William Penn Foundation, Knight Foundation, McLean Contributionship, Poor Richard's Charitable Trust, and an anonymous donor.
