During the planning phase of the Bartram's Mile trail segment, the City of Philadelphia and its partners held a series of public meetings in order to determine what neighbors and trail users would like to get out of the space. One of the ideas that came out of those meeting was to repurpose an industrial pier along Bartram's Mile for recreational use. Based on a study conducted by Urban Engineers, it is feasible to rehabilitate the southern pier near the trail entrance at 49th Street and Botanic Avenue for recreational use. Next steps are to create design drawings and documentation needed to reconstruct the pier, including constructing an ADA accessible path connecting the pier to the trail. Also, construction-phase funding needs to be secured in order to complete this project.
