South to Christian
SRDC worked with the City of Philadelphia and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to design and build a trail segment along the east bank of the Schuylkill River from South Street to the vicinity of Christian Street. This project extends the popular Schuylkill River Trail by an additional 1,400 feet, closing part of the gap between the Boardwalk and Grays Ferry Crescent. The north end of this trail segment ties to the southern end of the Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk and a stair tower to the South Street Bridge. CHOP built a stair tower and bridge to connect the South to Christian trail segment to the elevated public plaza around its facility at South Street and Schuylkill Avenue.
We are proud to announce that this project received the Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence in 2019! Learn more about the award here.
