On the sunny morning of April 5, 2014, over 150 volunteers gathered on Schuylkill Banks for the Philly Spring Cleanup, a citywide event connecting thousands of Philadelphians with local non-profits and city agencies to pick up trash, paint, plant and beautify our great city.

At the Schuylkill Banks cleanup, sponsored by PECO, volunteers—including a large contingent from Drexel University—tackled trash pickup, painted over graffiti, repainted light poles, bagged leaves and rubble, and filled in dirt trenches along the trail. By noon, several planting beds had been cleared and prepped for spring, and the trail was sparkling clean.

Shake Shack University City, SRDC’s partner organization, kept volunteers hip and hydrated with Shake Shack t-shirts, drink vouchers, and water. We thank Shake Shack for their ongoing support of Schuylkill Banks!

SRDC was so impressed by everyone’s hard work, dedication and positive attitude. We extend our deepest thanks to everyone who came out to volunteer as part of the Philly Spring Cleanup. There’s always a lot of maintenance work to do as we head into spring, and your efforts make a lasting difference!
