Fairmount Fish Ladder

Migrated automatically.

A fish ladder, located on the west side of the Fairmount Dam, allows migrating fish species like American Shad to travel upriver to spawn. The ladder was installed by the Philadelphia Water Department and US Army Corps of Engineers in 2009. You can learn more about the fish ladder online at waterhistoryphl.org or in person by reading the interpretive sign (pictured above and below) located at an overlook on MLK Jr. Drive by the fish ladder.
