Many, many thanks to the hundreds of people who helped clean up Schuylkill Banks this spring! Over 150 people, including a large contingent from Drexel University, tackled trash pickup, painted over graffiti, repainted light poles, bagged leaves and rubble, and filled in dirt trenches along the Center City trail as part of the 2014 Philly Spring Cleanup on April 5. This was our biggest cleanup event of 2014 so far, and SRDC was so impressed with the positive difference made along the Center City trail in just one day!

A team of FedEx employees also made a big impact at the Grays Ferry Crescent, where they completed landscaping around the popular Grays Ferry Skate Park. Two groups of PECO employees weeded, raked leaves, trimmed grasses and picked up trash and cigarette butts at the promenade between Market and Chestnut Streets, along the North End lower trail, and at Paine’s Park. A group of Furness High School students also weeded planting beds at the entrance to the Grays Ferry Crescent.

We would also like to thank the small but mighty group of people who volunteered their time and energy to help with post-flood cleanup. Nearly 30 volunteers raked and shoveled gravel and removed leaves and debris along the trail over the course of 5 post-flood cleanups. The Banks are now in shipshape again as we head into our events season!

SRDC is extremely grateful to everyone who participated in these cleanup events. Thank you for helping to keep Schuylkill Banks clean, safe and beautiful all year round!
