John Francis Gough, treasured friend of Schuylkill Banks, passed away on March 18, 2018.

John was the longest tenured SRDC board member, going back to the days when SRDC was a neighborhood council. He was our parliamentarian, our wordsmith, our informal legal advisor and the Board Secretary. More importantly, he was our friend. John nurtured SRDC for more than 20 years, his vast knowledge of the ins and outs of nonprofit policy helping to make Schuylkill Banks into the beloved greenway that it is today. His attention to detail was appreciated by his fellow board members and SRDC staff, who regularly relied on his understanding of laws and bylaws in the daily running of the organization. John was always available to answer questions, sign checks, and to offer a friendly smile and word of encouragement. In addition to his sharp mind, we will always fondly remember his dapper suits, kind heart, wonderful energy, and love for Schuylkill Banks and Philadelphia.

A mass of Catholic remembrance will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on April 14, 2018 at Saint Malachy Church, 1429 North 11th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122. The family will receive visitors beginning at 9:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in John’s name to the Schuylkill River Development Corporation (schuylkillbanks.org), or the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (bcan.org).

Our hearts go out to John's wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings during this difficult time. While John may no longer be physically with us, he is missed and his legacy will certainly endure.
