Dancing on the Schuylkill
Dancing on the Schuylkill is a community dance workshop for adults led by Alie Vidich, Director of INVISIBLE RIVER. Join them and learn a dance that you will perform on an island in the middle of the Schuylkill River this summer! Learn improvisational and modern dance - a combination of technique and creative expression. Fun across-the-floor phrases, turns and jumps. Choreographer Alie Vidich will lead the workshop and expand your creative vocabulary! During INVISIBLE RIVER, the audience travels in boats stopping at different performance locations along the way. Aerialists swing from bridges, dancers glide on water, sweet sonic rhythms emerge from musicians, and larger than life animal sculptures appear beside you.
No previous dance experience is necessary. Experience the unmatched joy and excitement of live performance with the Alie and the Brigade. Workshop runs on Tuesday nights from 6:30-8pm March 25-July 8 (no class on 4/15) at Christ Church Neighborhood House in Old City at 20 N. American Street (2nd and Market St.). Performances are Sat 7/12 & Sun 7/13 with dress rehearsals on Thurs 7/10 & Fri 7/11. Must be at least 14 years old. $250 for entire workshop (includes costume) - can be paid in installments and discounts for students, seniors & artists. Registration closes on Tues 3/18. Past performances include - INVISIBLE RIVER 2013, a public celebration of the Schuylkill River, the ephemeral nature of the summer, and the creation of live performance as the means to bring a city together. In June 2013, it drew 900 audience members over the course of two days and received notable coverage from ABC6, WXPN 88.5 FM, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and other publications. CONSTANTS: a performance journey in history along the Schuylkill River (2010 & 2011) - During nightly canoe journeys, actor/narrators rowed 400 people onto the Schuylkill River to experience the hidden histories of the Schuylkill danced, sung, acted and visualized on the river's waters. The INVISIBLE RIVER team is Amy Lynne Barr (Choreographer & Aerial Dancer), Olivia Jorgensen (Choreographer), Ken Jordan (Production Manager), Jessica Marcus (Musical Director), Will Maus (Boat Manager), Leigh Mumford (Technical Director & Lighting Designer), and Alie Vidich (Producing Director & Choreographer).
