City, State and Local dignitaries gathered at the new 56th Street Plaza on Earth Day, April 22 to cut the ribbon on the Bartram's Mile trail and greenway. The overcast weather didn't dampen the enthusiasm of on-lookers, who enjoyed live music and activities along the Mile and at Bartram's Garden. Bartram's Mile is the first segment of the Schuylkill Banks trail on the west side of the river; we are thrilled that Southwest Philadelphia neighborhoods can now enjoy better access to the riverfront and historic Bartram's Garden.

While the trail is open for use, there are still items of work remaining. We encourage you to visit the Mile if you have not done so yet. We are now tying up loose ends on the Schuylkill Crossing project, which will link Bartram's Mile to the Grays Ferry Crescent. If all goes as planned, this project will be bid in August and create a vital east-west trail connection.
